DiscussionWhich attachment do you use most? Any that give you major troubles? How do you use them in your sewing? Click and type in a question or comment Hello Starr and I love my Singer 301! I use the slant embroidery foot that was previously made by Singer, and they do have newer reproductions available. It is a hard plastic and does a nice free motion. I just wrote a comparison of how to choose your embroidery and free motion foot on my blogsite. A pic of that Singer slant is there. Go to: http://thesewbox.blogspot.com/ If I can help further just send me an email! Love to hear from others what slant foot they like to use. Charlene Need a good free motion/darning foot for slant needle Sing 301. Recommendations, hints are welcome. Starr Hello and thanks for the question. The Singer foot #25533 is the foot hemmer, yet if you have a foot that looks like that on page 80 - that gets more confusing as that one is a gathering foot. Now, adding in the space guide you are referring to, that places it like the quilting foot. It does sound like a fairly confused attachment. Is it a Singer? At times, the numbers can be hard to determine due to the stamping. I would certainly be happy to look at a photo of the foot, which will give a much better determination. If you wish to, send it to me at charlene@thesewbox.com and I will be happy to help. I am glad you are enjoying the book, and keep practicing. If you saw my sewing trash can some days - we all learn at the beginning. Charlene I have a foot with the # 25533 on it, which in one place called it a hemmer. To me it looks more like the Singer quilting or possibly gathering foot only the "space guide" is attached on a swivel type arrangement on top of the foot. Can you tell me what this might be used for and how? I just purchased your new book and was wondering if it could be a different gathering foot w/the quilting guide attached - similar to the one pictured on p. 80. The only problem is this one has the quilting guide attached "permanently" on top of the foot which doesn't allow the holder to fit under the side screw. This all sounds confusing but would appreciate any insight you might have. Love your book so far - I've just started trying to learn to use the attachments I have and those I might find in the future. I have a binder with 5 slots on the outside. Am I able to use all those slots and how do I make and sew on my own binding? Thanks for the book! Amy in Utah I have read a couple of your books that I got from your internet site. Thank you for helping to explain everything so clearly! Begin by turning your narrow hem under about 1/8", twice. Finger press. Place this under your hemmer foot and take a couple of stitches. Now, raise your presser foot and, while holding the back threads with one hand, use the other to wiggle the hem in the hemmer scrolls. Just move it back and forth a little. When you have it in place, lower your presser foot and begin sewing slowly. I keep the material behind the presser foot taunt while guiding the material into the scroll. This helps. For some step by step photos, you can go to my blog - http://thesewbox.blogspot.com Let me know how you are doing! Happy Sewing! Charlene I have more trouble with the narrow hemmers. Is there some hint or how do I get it started? love the quilt block! |
