As an avid quilter, it only made sense to incorporate my love of quilting with my various vintage and new attachments. What better way than to make an "Attachment Quilt"! The Sunbonnet Sue square is one of many to come. I was able to use the ruffler and the automatic zigzagger. Each square brings a new challenge!

Feel free to share with me how you use your attachments and even what trouble you might be having. Click on the 'Discussion' button. I love to hear from fellow sewers.

No matter which machine you enjoy using, your sewing machine attachments add spice & variety to your sewing!

Charlene lives in Southwest Ohio with her husband, Bryan. They own and operate The Sew Box, specializing in sewing attachments and books. At times, a refurbished sewing machine will be lovingly cleaned and repaired to continue its life of sewing. They can be found at www.thesewbox.com. Charlene enjoys sharing tips and hints through her blog site http://thesewbox.blogspot.com.

Sewing is a lifelong hobby and business, with Charlene presently researching the history of our wonderful sewing machine attachment manufacturers, such as Greist and Singer. Treks through flea markets and antique shops are a favorite pastime to unearth those wonderful oddities and old time favorites. Each attachment has a wonderful history and waits patiently to continue its life of sewing.

Although sewing machine attachment history and teaching others how to use them are her primary focus, sewing for family and friends is a favorite and relaxing pastime. She especially loves quilting – creating treasures from cloth. Items that will be tossed on the floor as children play with their toys or for a quick nap on the bed snuggled under the many layers of colors. Whether sewing clothes, household items, or quilts, there is certainly a wonderful vintage attachment that can be used. With our world of computerized sewing machines, there is still a fabulous place for the complex, but simple to use, sewing machine attachments. One of her goals is to design and complete a quilt using as many of the treasured sewing machine attachments as possible.

As a previous public school teacher and college professor, sharing and instructing others appear to come naturally and easily. Tossing in the writing element was another way to share her love for sewing with others. She has written books on the Singer Featherweight and a compilation of Singer sewing machines and their corresponding attachments. These are presently available only through her web site. In addition to teaching, Charlene previously had a successful seamstress business for over 10 years sewing for others and alterations and repairs.

At the present time, Charlene continues her own learning of each new attachment, finding the many ways they can be used to embellish our sewing projects of today. Questions come from those having difficulty, and the real joy is running to the sewing room to help guide them. Taking the attachment in hand, and replicating their problem can usually generate several solutions, or reassurance that they are doing it correctly. The true joy is in discovery.
